Structure of FRCR Part 1 exam
The first FRCR exam tests candidates’ knowledge in radiological anatomy and the physics underlying diagnostic imaging. It is divided into two modules.
Physics module
It covers UK ionising radiation legislation, patient safety, and physical principles of diagnostic imaging. It is assessed through a single MCQ paper.

Number of questions: 40 multiple-choice questions
Duration of the exam: 2 hours
Anatomy module
This exam focuses on radiological anatomy across all body systems and imaging modalities. It is examined through an image viewing session.
Mode of exam: Computer-based test
Number of questions: 100 image-associated questions
Duration of the exam: 90 minutes
Candidates can take the modules in any order and even sit both in the same session. Candidates must successfully clear both modules to pass the exam.
