What is FRCR 2A?

Mode of the exam: Computer-based exam

Number of papers: 2

Number of questions: 120 SBA (Single Best Answer) questions for each paper

Duration of the exam: 3 hours for each paper

Frequency: 2 times a year

The FRCR 2A exam, which includes two papers, ensures that the aspirants’ knowledge and skills are equivalent to ST3 and ST4 levels. The exam is usually held twice a year, in November and April.

Eligibility for FRCR Part 2A

• Must have passed the FRCR Part 1 examination.
• Must have completed 24 months of formal clinical radiology training by the month of the exam.
• A maximum of six attempts is allowed to pass the FRCR Part 2A exam.

Marking Scheme

A ‘modified Angoff’ method is used to set the pass mark for FRCR 2A. A panel of experts evaluates each question and provides an estimate of how likely a just-passing candidate would know the answer. The Hofstee compromise method is also used to set the final score. The candidate cohort and pass rate will vary from sitting to sitting.
