Home FRCR: Know What It Takes To Sit The Various Exams

The FRCR (Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists) examination is conducted by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) in the UK. The Royal College of Radiologists is the professional body for clinical radiology and clinical oncology. It is responsible for setting the curriculum and establishing the standards of practice for both the domains throughout the United Kingdom.
The fellowship is awarded to candidates who have completed 34 months of training in clinical radiology. They should also pass all the three steps of the examination. FRCR is a compulsory examination that has to be cleared by UK radiologists in training. This is essential for becoming a practicing radiologist.
FRCR is also a must for non-UK radiologists, if they wish to practice radiology or gain further subspecialty training in the UK. Read on to understand the eligibility criteria for sitting the exams.

Eligibility Criteria For FRCR
FRCR Part 1 Exam
To be eligible for this exam you should hold a Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ). This should be recognized by the GMC for registration purposes. You should also hold a formal clinical radiology post in which you are actively receiving clinical radiology training. Clinical experience or training of no minimum duration is required to enter the exams.

FRCR Part 2 A Exam
To be eligible for this exam, you should pass the FRCR Part 1 exam. You should also complete 24 months in a formal clinical radiology training post. This should happen by the month the examination is taken.

FRCR Part 2 B Exam
For sitting this exam, you should pass the final FRCR Part A exam. You need to further complete 34 months in a formal clinical radiology training post. This should be done by the month the examination is taken.
You can apply for a full registration with a license to practice once you pass all three parts of your examinations. Once the GMC has approved your application, you can work as a doctor in the UK.
